New Zealand swimmer Lauren Boyle won silver in the 800 meters freestyle at the World Championships in Russia. The silver medal is Boyle’s gives her a total of two for the championship after finishing second in the 1500 m freestyle.In both races Boyle finished behind the emerging superstar Katie Ledecky – the young American managed a haul of five gold medals. Ledecky appears to be breaking world records for fun.But Boyle was also breaking records herself. In the 800 m race she her time of 8:17.65 took a second off her own New Zealand record, and she now holds the Oceania record as well.Doyle’s coach Denis Cotterell has been working with the New Zealand coach Graeme Laing to ensure Boyle was mentally and physically ready for the championships.“Lauren has been training for this race. It is the way it needed to be set-up. We knew she would need a buffer on the fast girls and her training with Denis has been with this plan in mind,” said Laing. “It was a fantastic swim, a courageous swim and she did it perfectly. Lauren has trained so hard for this and it was really good practice for her as she looks ahead to Rio.”
